Last week, the Gospel reading saw Jesus explaining that faith – even faith the size of a mustard seed is what God requires.
On Sunday night, Ken took us through the next part of the story, with Jesus asleep in the boat as the storm raged and the disciples had a perfect opportunity to find out just how much faith and trust they really had in Jesus.
We are often overwhelmed by the storms of life which challenge the strength of our faith and who our faith is in. Instead of giving in to fear, anxiety and frustration, we have the opportunity to choose to trust, pray and obey.
In the same way a claustrophobic submariner communicates his fear to everyone around him and negatively impacts the entire crew, our reaction to life’s challenges impacts those around us too. Does our response reflect to others our faith that God is in control even though we can’t see how the storm will end?
Quiet! Be still. Trust in the God who calms the storm.

“Quiet! Be still!” Trust in God who calms the storm and saves us from drowning in our moment of crisis.
Closing prayer from last weeks Sermon
Jesus, I certainly can identify with the disciples. At the first sign of trouble, I want to run away. I scream at you, angry that you don’t seem to care. I hear your call to be still, to trust, to mature faith. Give me the strength and wisdom to accept that call, knowing that when the next thunderstorm hits, you are with me, and you empower me to overcome. Amen.
